Manjakuttai is a small scenic hamlet and has its own viewpoint that covers the sunrise of Yercaud. The name Manjakuttai arises from the name given to a pond at this location, Due to the nature of the mud and ground the pond radiates a yellow colour on its surface and till date the yellow tinge is there on the pond.
There is also another version for the name wherein Manju in traditional Tamil means clouds and Manjakuttai refer to a cloud covered water body…….
On checking with the locals a few of them say that the pond was filled with yellow lilies and people can only see a canopy of yellow and not the water, which gave it the term Manjakuttai (Yellow stagnant water body).
Whatever maybe the true reason, The promoters felt that the name of the resort should have its roots from the location of the resort……and aptly named it as Yellow Lake Resort and SPA.
